THE BEGINNING
It began with one depot.
In 1996, Johan van der Merwe (known to everyone simply as Mack) and his father, Dirk van der Merwe, acquired the Engen fuel depot in Wolmaransstad.
Through hard work and an obsession with doing right by his customers, that single depot grew into a regional leader. Engen itself took notice and asked Mack to help replicate his winning formula across the Northern and central territories.
GROWTH
A name that came to mean reliability.
Over three decades, Mack's grew to six depots, Wolmaransstad, Bloemhof, Schweizer-Reneke, Vryburg, Bloemfontein, and Kuruman, with our own fleet of tankers and an in-house workshop to keep them running.
The name on the door became a promise across the region:

THE NEXT CHAPTER
The next chapter.
In February 2026, Johan van der Merwe unfortunately passed away from battling cancer, leaving behind a legacy built over thirty years.
Shortly after, his son Dirk van der Merwe was appointed Managing Director. Dirk grew up in this business, with a deep love and respect for the industry his father built.
Now, he carries that responsibility fully: combining a natural instinct for business with a drive to modernise through technology, and a determination to honour his father's legacy and grow it, every single day.
